Advance Australia Fair?

A cynical, political comic strip that parodies our country's national anthem while touching on a variety of sensitive issues. Maybe a little over the top but I still think it raises some topical and valid issues.

The Rubber Glove

I love America, really I do. Sure, their government at the moment is run by a complete right-wing maniac who is hell bent on starting World War III at any cost under the guise of preventing terrorism, but that aside I have some wonderful friends and some fantastic memories of the place.

And then I have some not so fantastic ones...

Portals

Three naturally-framed photos act as a portal into different worlds - a shipwreck, a medieval town and the outside world from a tombstone...

Cameron captures that most famously photographed daily event, the sun as it settles in for the evening.

Every Picture Tells A Story

I was inspired enough by my first ever trip to a large, loud, technicolour rave in the outer suburbs of Melbourne to pen a few thoughts.

Commuter Tales

Here is the collection of thoughtful prose about Melbourne's public transport that I penned a couple of years ago, eventually spurning the idea for this web site.

Every Turk I met when backpacking through Turkey shared the same cheeky grin, as shown in these photographs.

Hitching From Geneva To Paris

I often think back to my first hitch-hiking experience in Europe - the liberation, the anticipation of the first ride... the disappointment of being stuck at the side of the road!

A Diabolic Trinity

Here are the poems that Kim originally posted on opinios. A great example of her ability to express herself from an entirely different point of view, either dark and chilling, or positive and idealistic.

Sculptor's Sanctuary Soothes the Soul

I have been back to the William Ricketts Sanctuary a couple of times since writing this review of it, and it is just as powerful every time. With photos by David Zerk.

Daily Ablutions

Here are a few pieces that I put together soon after I first moved to Melbourne and didn't have any friends. It's amazing what a bit of spare time on your hands encourages you to come up with.

The Morning Jog | The Evening Swim | Mutiny | Day One | Madness Called Art

Disenchanted

I had a great job in Melbourne and lasted three years there. Sure, the long hours sitting in front of a screen got to me in the end, but it definitely had plenty of positives about it.

You wouldn't think so after reading these thoughts that I penned soon after starting. I had been travelling for six months before settling into a 9 to 5, and really struggled adjusting to the routine...

The Real World | Just Jargon | Distributed Sleeping Patterns

No Strings Attached

Even my father has contributed to opinios! This is the impressionist sculpture of the Adelaide String Quartet that took him the better part of a year to complete and has been featured in several touring exhibitions around Australia, including Artelaide.
