Distributed Sleeping Patterns

There are some parts of my job that aren't so bad. If I have had a late night, I can actually doze off in front of my screen for a couple of minutes without anyone noticing. I convince myself that fighting this fatigue is impossible, that my body simply cannot allow itself to be deprived of rest any longer; and hence 15, 20, 30 seconds of this risky intermittent napping is unavoidable.

But realistically, it's right when I get stuck writing code, or reading someone else's code. I'll hit a brick wall in the problem-solving process and go, "Oooh, need to shut my eyes..."

But it's not purely psychological - my body joins in to encourage the facade. I'll yawn and my eyelids will grow heavy, my sub-conscious cluttered with inherited classes and fluffy pillows; over-ridden methods and a warm, cosy doona...

Shit.

Must have dropped off there. Better get a coffee.
