Just Jargon
They assigned me to stick titles in every message box of the admin screens, because that's what the specs say. But I opened up a can of worms. Now I have to solve intricate browser compatibility issues - subtle behavioural anomalies between JavaScript and Jscript. I didn't know there was a difference. I test the screens and test them again. Sometimes they work fine, but sometimes they crash. That's why the development team call it Internet Exploder, not Internet Explorer.
They joke about how the source code for Windows 95 probably has a part which generates a random number, then GPFs. They laugh. I laugh too.
"What's a GPF Dave?"
"A General Protection Fault. A crash."
"Oh..." I reply. I had one of them earlier. Dave's a genius. He says that back in the JDK 1.1, it wasn't truly object-oriented, but now it is. And before that it wasn't even called Java, it was called something else. He can't believe how crap the AWT is, the native methods are much better. I listen and nod. I have no fucking idea what he is talking about.
I check my mail. Again. Maybe someone wrote to me in the last 5 minutes.
