Commuter Conflict
My creative writing homework is to write 300 words about my mother... but how can I possibly write about my mother when there are so many characters around me crying out to be captured on paper?
A smelly, disheveled, heavy-set bloke with a dare-to-mess-with-me goatee and a designer beany pulled down to his eyes is moaning behind me. He is muttering something or other with a muffled voice typically found in the hearing-impaired.
"Wha' you loo' ah?"
The young Asian girl to which he is directing his frustration is naturally quite perplexed. "I wasn't looking at you" she feels compelled to reply. "I don't..."
"Boo-shee!" our disgruntled friend cuts her off.
His attempt to walk over and confront the innocent girl is intercepted by a tall, somber looking fellow.
"Hey, go siddown" he insists with a hint of a shove on the shoulder to let the guy know that he was prepared to fend for himself. Brave chap. The goon sits back down. The girl gets off the train hurriedly. Behind me I hear our antagonist crank up the music on his headphones - I guess he wasn't deaf after all.
He will be if he keeps it at that volume though.
