Prettying Things Up

Here's something that I never knew about Windows XP. The Cleartype setting (right-click on Desktop --> Properties --> Appearance --> Effects) makes fonts so much smoother and more beautiful to read.

Check out the difference:

I can't believe I have been putting up with pixelated type for so long. If it doesn't slow your machine down too much, give it a go!

Thank you for the tip. I've got nice view. It is much effective in smaller fonts and smaller pitch screans.

ClearType rocks. It was made specifically to increase readability on LCDs but it's so worth having on CRTs as well.

Plus it gives those Mac users one less thing to whine about when they sit in front of a Windows box. ;)

Didn't work for me, it made my CRT look blurrier, but to each his own. Nice site! (My first time here.)

Thanks Hasan. I am on a laptop and you can see how from the images how the smoother edges just makes it look less blocky. Even if typography is compromised on a computer screen compared to print media, ClearType goes some way for me to maintain the illusion that it isn't...

Glad you like the site!
